Grace in Small Things - 44

1. Having the air conditioners put in (by Nick) after sweating our way through a bad nights sleep. (It's 90 degrees today!!!)

2. Watching Zoe write her name for the first time. A near perfect "Z"... a wonderful "o"... and um, yeah... sure.... that's an "e"!!! A little practice and she'll have it.

3. Driving in the car and listening to Zoe make Ana laugh hysterically... and then Zoe laughing at Ana laughing. They get going and seem to have trouble stopping.

4. Cheeseburgers on the grill.

5. The last chocolate Easter egg.

Grace in Small Things - 43

1. A gorgeous summer-like spring day.

2. A family walk after dinner.

3. Zoe's enjoyment of our new "rest time". If I don't force a nap (which I sometimes do) she's happy to stay quiet in her room for a long time with reading books and coloring books and a variety cds.

4. Dora popsicles.

5. The switch-over from getting hot coffee to wanting iced coffee.

Ana Banana is 9 months old

How is that possible??? My teeny tiny Ana Banana is 9 months old. And she's not a teeny tiny 9 month old... she's a big chunka-monka 9 month old. A healthy chubby cherub if I ever saw one. Oh... the rolls and the Buddha belly.

Some 9 month stats...

Weight - 21 pounds 15 ounces (Zoe was 17lbs 10oz @ 9m)

Length - 29 inches (Zoe was 28in @ 9m)

Size - 12 months. (I think Ana heard all my joy at being about to use ALL of Zoe's hand-me-downs since they were both summer babies and decided she would have none of that. She wants her own new clothes. So... most of Zoe's are going to waste. She outgrows them before we get to the season. Sniffle sniffle.)

Sleep - Ana LOVES sleep. She's goes in her crib at about 8pm and sleeps straight through until about 7am. Then she naps from about 9:30/10 until about 12. And then... she naps from about 1:30/2 until about 4. The girl loves her crib. Ana is proof that sleep helps you grow.

Food - Ana eats anything you put in front of her (obviously). She ate any baby food (fruit/veggie/dinner mix... whatever). And now... she eats "real people food" with great excitement. Her favorite thing to eat seems to be whatever we're eating. The other night she even ate steak and noodles. Last night she ate chicken, noodles and peas. And ice cream... ice cream puts her into a frenzy. The girl loves to eat.

So... that's Ana... sleeping, eating and growing.

If I had to choose one word to describe Ana.... HAPPY. She is one happy baby. There are very few things that cause Ana to cry. She cries when she's hungry or wants a bottle. She cries when she's tired. She cries when she has a poopy diaper. Sometimes she cries for strangers or crowds. She screams for certain dogs. It seems Ana is afraid of dogs. Not just nervous or scared. TERRIFIED. Otherwise... Ana is a happy cooing babbling raspberry blowing baby. And she has this laugh... this infectious giggling belly laugh.

Another thing about Ana... she is a stickler for her schedule. Generally she doesn't get beyond a little whining because when she gets a bit fussy I just look at the clock. She wants to have her bottle at the same time daily, sleep at the same time daily, eat at the same time daily. Stay with her schedule and she is the happiest most easy-going baby on earth. She gets quite mad... frustrated... almost annoyed... when you don't realize what time it is.

One things she's not doing... moving. She will sit in one place for what seems like hours. You plop her down and give her some toys and she's a happy camper. She's also happy laying on her belly or her back. She regularly rolls from her belly to her back and I have seen her roll from her back to her belly exactly 2 times. She's like a turtle... when she rolls onto her back it's like she's stuck. She loves sitting. She loves spinning in her exersaucer. She loves jumping in her doorway jumper. No crawling. No scooting. No pulling up. If you hold her hands she will stand... but she won't move her feet even an inch. Ana is a stationary being right now. For now... I'm OK with that. I dread baby-proofing Zoe's stuff. (Zoe is a collector of things. Rocks, buttons, coins. Talk about choking hazard dangers.)

There is one time she does do a lot of moving. She will not stay still while being held. She is a wiggle worm. Whether you are sitting or standing while holding her she wants to be all over the place. She needs to see everything going on. She wants to turn her head in every direction. She wants to face in. She wants to face out. She wants to bounce. She wants to touch everything. It is exhausting to hold her sometimes. Wiggle worm I tell you.

That's Ana. Happy, easy-going, smiling and giggling. Oh... and the non-stop raspberry blowing.

I could go on and on. 9 months old and already there is so much to tell. I will just leave it by saying I am one happy Mommy.

Several important questions... (ick ick ick)

What the hell is that thing?

Why was it on my kitchen floor this morning?

Can it swim?

Does it travel with friends???????

My first instinct was to go into another room and hope the thing disappeared never to be seen again. And, um, my second instinct (shame shame shame) was to instruct Zoe how to catch it (because she would TOTALLY do it). But... I sucked it up and I captured that almost 2 inch long creature and flushed it. I believe if you were here you would have heard me "ew ew ew ew ew ew"ing the whole time... and then see me wriggle my body in disgust as I flushed and watched it spin.

People who know me well are proud right? Nick? Mom? Jim? Proud. Right?

ew ew ew ew ew

3 years ago today...

A tooth!

My lilypie counter at the bottom of the screen tells me that Ana is 9 months 1 week and 3 days old today.

Today... Ana has a tooth!!!

Ok... it's not a whole tooth. It could be confused with a grain of sand stuck on her bottom gum. It's not even really enough to see when trying to look in the mouth of a squirming wiggling drooling 9 month old... so you're definitely not going to be seeing a picture of Ana's first tooth.

But it's there. I felt it. Multiple times.

Ana's first tooth.

***Just a point of interest... Zoe got her first tooth on 4/6/06. So Ana was born 10 days after Zoe's birthday... and she has her first tooth 14 days after the "birth" of Zoe's first tooth. It's interesting to compare those baby book dates.

Grace in Small Things - 42

1. Mommy and Me swim class at the Y (Ana treats it like her own personal spa time...lounging/relaxing/cooing).

2. Microwave pancakes.

3. Coffee (is it bad to mention coffee in multiple GiST posts? I think it deserves weekly mentions).

4. The blooming flowers all around us (I'll try to ignore that pesky pollen).

5. The end of holiday season (I love the holidays... but I'm glad all the big ones are done for a while).

Sesame Street Live in NYC

Forever and a day ago (OK... it was in the beginning of February.) I won tickets to see Sesame Street Live from Mamanista. It was a very rushed spontaneous day trip. I think I won the tickets on a Monday or Tuesday and then we were off to NYC on Friday. (Thank goodness it happened to be a Friday that Nick had off!)

Like most activities involving huge fuzzy monsters... there was excitement. (There was also some yawning... since for some reason these shows are always during nap time.)
Ana had no clue what was going on... but she's pretty good about going with the flow. (I can't believe she's already been to see 2 shows in NYC already.)
Woo Hoo!!! Free tickets to see Elmo!!!! (Oh... $5 popcorn. $4 bottle of water.)
Oh look! A swirly glowing Elmo thing! ($15)
I think Zoe would like to get up there and sing and dance with her furry pals a little bit.
Hi Elmo!
I'm still not quite sure who that woman was. I like to pretend it was Gina.
Bye! Thanks for coming today!
Balloons! Woo Hoo! Yeah! ($10) We also bought a t-shirt that Zoe will wear now... and Ana will wear later ($18).

So... yippee! Sesame Street Live. I have always always always wanted to see Sesame Street Live. And now... we've all been to see Sesame Street Live. I think the show is better when the tickets are free. Because the tickets were free we were a little more lenient about buying goodies. So... our free show wasn't EXACTLY free (we spent about eleventy billion dollars). But... it was fun.

(Oh, and mumble mumble mumble... we paid the tolls to come through the tunnel there and back. Oh, and we paid for parking. Oh, and um... we had lunch.)

So... our free show wasn't EXACTLY free (we spent about eleventy billion dollars). But... it was fun. I'd go again (but I might have to get someone to go with me... because Nick may have met his quota of furry monster shows).

Wordless Wednesday - Oh, Hi!

We had the dribbles.

Conversation with Zoe on the way home from school (a few weeks ago).

Zoe - Mama, Jasmine has the dribbles. (Jasmine is a school friend.)

Me - Jasmine has what?

Zoe - The dribbles.

Me - What does that mean Zoe?

Zoe - Jasmine has the dribbles. She took the dribbles.

Me - What did Jasmine do? She spilled something at lunch?

Zoe - NO!

Me - Is Jasmine sick?

Zoe - NO!

Me - What did Jasmine do Zoe?

Zoe - Jasmine has the dribbles. The dribbles.

Me - Zoe... what are dribbles?

Zoe - You know... the dribbles. I told you.

Me - Zoe, I don't know what you're talking about. What are the dribbles?

Zoe - Mama! You know the dribbles. I told you them. The dribbles. Jasmine has them.

Me - I'm sorry Zoe. I don't know what you're talking about. Are the dribbles food? Or a drink? What are the dribbles?

Zoe - THE DRIBBLES! THE DRIBBLES! I told you them!

Me - Zoe I just don't know what you're talking about. I'm sorry.

Zoe - THE DRIBBLES! YOU KNOW! IN SCHOOL! CHIP AND DALE!

Me - OOOOOOHHHHHHH! The GERBILS! Jasmine took home the class GERBILS.

Zoe - Yes Mama. Jasmine has the dribbles. I told you.

Me - (mumble mumble mumble wine mumble)

Guess who took home the class dribbles the next weekend?

Oh... and this is the cheesy smile I get from Zoe now whenever I want to take a picture.

I want want want a Kindle 2...

and Julie Stratford is giving one away.

Do you know about the Amazon Kindle 2? I do. I look at that thing a couple times a week. I WANT a Kindle 2. (The price, ugh, gasp, sigh, the price.) You should go read about it. You're going to want one too. Um... wait... don't go. If you look... you'll want it, and then you'll enter, and you might win... and I want it. Just trust me. It's awesome and I should have it.

Julie isn't just going to randomly give away this Kindle 2. Oh, wait, yes.... she sort of is just randomly giving it away. But, before she'll consider randomly giving it to me (and she really should give it to me) she wants to know how it will improve my reading habits.

You see.... I love to read. I used to read more books than I can even remember. But then Zoe came along. And then Ana came along. Instead of reading books for me... I started reading books for them. Books that started "Once upon a time...". Books with rhyming words. Our book shelves are loaded with books that have 10 words in them and cardboard pages, or the pages are covered with pink princesses, or animals, or rainbows, or pop open doors. Don't get me wrong. I love those books. I love that my girls love those books. I just want to start reading books for me again.

So... how can the Kindle 2 improve my reading habits? Well... it just might be snazzy and exciting enough to bring back my ability to read a book meant for me and not for my 3 year old or 9 month old. It might just give me that little push to start reading for myself again.

Oh... and no paper cuts. Big improvement.

So, Julie Stratford.... please pick me!!!!

Take Me Back Tuesday - 12 month portraits...

of me!!!

Awww.... wasn't I a cutie? heehee
I still have this Raggedy Ann doll. It's actually in our living room right now!!!
Make sure to stop over to Kari's to see what other old photos everyone is sharing!

Grace in Small Things - 40

1. Polka dot twirly skirts. (Really... this could be the best skirt ever.... and now they're ON SALE!!! for even less than I paid.)

2. Cadbury Creme Eggs

3. Sunshine.

4. A cup of tea on a chilly night.

5. Zoe saying "I'll rest... but first I have to dance."

Happy Easter!

I almost forgot to visit the Easter bunny this year. Since we were on vacation it was the last thing I had my mind on.

Ana was THRILLED to see the Easter Bunny. Real dogs terrify her... but this huge fuzzy bunny was her immediate best friend. She kicked, she bounced, she laughed, she smiled. The bunny tickled her and she just got more excited. If I didn't hold her tight she would have wiggled right out of my arms.

Zoe was excited about seeing the Easter Bunny, too... until she actually saw the him. She got very anxious and told us "I already saw the Easter Bunny. I already did my picture!" I had just shown her the previous years' photos... so she was right. She latched herself onto Nick's leg and wouldn't go anywhere near the bunny. She finally agreed (and "agreed" isn't necessarily the correct word) when Nick carried her over and we all sat down with the bunny. At that point she did smile... sort of.

It wasn't planned... but it actually turned out to be a pretty good family photo. Anybody wanna crop out that bunny for me and then squeeze us together?

We're off.... again...

Zoe and Ana and I are headed to Florida (in about 2 hours). We're going to visit my family again (I can't get in enough visits.)

My first time flying ALONE with the 2 girls. EEK!

I'm really only worried about 2 things.

1. Having both girls out of the huge double stroller... holding Ana... and being able to get that huge double stroller up onto the table for the x-ray machine. Hopefully I'll have some friendly travelers behind me in the security line.

2. Keeping my chunka-munk Ana on my lap for the 2 1/2 hour flight. She is a wiggling ball of energy lately. Reaching and grabbing everything. I'm sure I'll be exhausted by the time we land.

If I can get through those 2 things... nothing else has me worried. I'm going to check our bags and car seats at the curb side drop off. Zoe is a fabulous traveler. (She gets her dvd player on and does a little coloring and one Disney movie later we're landing.) Nick's parents are taking us to the airport... my parents are picking us up.

No worries, right?

Hopefully I'll get a few posts up while I'm in the sunshine state. If not... I'll at least try to log in and read up on what everyone else is doing. And at the very least... I'll get onto Facebook and update my status. (Are you one of my Facebook friends?)

This little piggy...

A certain someone has become slightly obsessed with her toes.

It made the monthly photo difficult (and yikes... she'll be 9 months next week!!!)

Let me just tell you... it makes for very interesting diaper changes.

Oh... and Zoe NEVER did this. Because of her hips being the way they were she never brought her toes to her face. She still really doesn't have the flexibility to do it without a huge effort... although she can turn her leg all the way out the other way and bring her foot to her ear. (I imagine you can't picture that. I'll have to get a picture.)
